PLASTIBEC ENVIRONMENTALLY AWARE
For several years now, Plastibec has taken environmental issues very seriously and this results in tangible actions. Our efforts can be seen through the life cycle of our products, from our manufacturing process through the distribution of our products and the recycling of the same.
To begin with, the raw materials we work with are 100% recyclable and we make it our duty to properly re-use all “dust, purge or waste” vinyl materials without compromising the integrity of our products. Three areas of our company are concretely dedicated in the re-use or recycling of materials:
- All vinyl “dust, purge or waste” materials are recycled in the manufacturing extrusion process in products such as our recycled valance or our Eco-Choice™ program as post-industrial material.
- We buy back customer “off-cut” vinyl materials and recycle these in “packaging materials” as post-consumer material. Our packaging materials are made with post consumer and/or post industrial material for the distribution of our finished goods: Plastibec’s Regrind Packaging Program consists of using materials which could otherwise end up in landfills. Packaging planks, boxes and angle board which substitute more conventional wood or cardboard paper products, thereby reducing the level of throwaway packaging material and deforestation.
Did you know that Plastibec recycles on an annual basis approximately 500,000 lbs of PVC?
- Our highly qualified extrusion technicians operate high performance extruders with state of the art machine cooling systems resulting in high efficiencies and minimizing water waste. Our water cooling system operates in a “closed loop” system, meaning that the water used to cool down our equipment is constantly re-used in our plant. Plastibec’s Water Conservation Program consists of a significant investment in our extruders’ cooling system and re-circulating water system for water that would otherwise end up in our drainage system.
Did you know that Plastibec’s “closed loop” water system allows us to save 50,000,000 gallons of drinking water annually?
For our customers, the products that we sell make it possible to save energy; whether on heating or air-conditioning. As a matter of fact, studies have shown that using blinds allows a home or office to be more energy efficient: during summer, vinyl blinds help prevent the sun from heating the room by blocking sun rays. During winter, vinyl blinds reduce cold air infiltration or drafts in the room.
Did you know that Plastibec’s engineered PVC material requires 20% less energy to manufacture than many other plastic products?
Plastibec also recognizes our customers “green initiative” efforts. A Plastibec “Green Certificate” is awarded on an annual basis to all customers participating in the purchase of our “recycled valance” program and who actively participate in the collection of their PVC “end-cuts” which are then recycled by Plastibec.
